We present a survey of the state-of-the-art algorithms and software packages for large-scale nonlinear classification with an extensive experimental evaluation on a collection of large real-life text, image, web and sensor data sets across various applications. The aim of the tutorial is to share with the AI community recent advances of large-scale non-linear classification - a fundamental machine learning research topic which serves as a core tool for many AI subfields such as data mining, NLP, computer vision and information retrieval.
